Enter our Matilda Writing Competition

“Milo’s life had always been ordinary. His life was so ordinary, in fact, that it was almost a little bit boring. But then something happened to Milo that was quite extraordinary – so unexpected, and so magical, that you would hardly believe it was possible…”

On Saturday 1 April, Handmade Cinema will transform The Jubilee Centre into a word-fuelled wonderland for a unique, immersive screening of the classic family film Matilda and we want the children of Sheffield to be a part of our event!

Using the opening paragraph above as a starting point, we want you to unleash your imagination and take us on a fantastical reading adventure by creating your very own short story.

The Writing Is Magic! short story competition will be judged by a panel of local authors, librarians, and literary folk. Judges will pick two winners to receive goodie bags full of special prizes, including vouchers from independent children’s book shop Rhyme & Reason.

All the entries to the Writing Is Magic! short story competition will be exhibited at the venue for our special screening of Matilda, so be sure to decorate your page and illustrate your stories to show off your creativity and create an eye-catching story.
